Everyone is unique. But did you know that your identity influences how you see the world? Everyone sees things differently, which means that who you are (your identity) can often differ greatly from how others perceive you (your image). This can sometimes lead to clashes or misunderstandings.
During the workshop "I Am, Therefore I See", you will explore your own identity and how it shapes the biases you develop. You will visit the Gallery of Honor, engage in discussions with your classmates and a museum educator to interpret the images, and then participate in a follow-up discussion to compare different interpretations.
After this exploration, you’ll get creative. You will create a self-portrait—but you won’t be in it! This exercise helps you express your identity visually through imagery.
Finally, the group will present these creations to each other and reflect on the photos: Who do you think each image represents? Does the impression you have of a classmate match how they see themselves? In short, how are identity and image connected? Come and find out! Who knows—you might see things differently after this workshop.
